Provence Information -
Touring
and Attractions
Provence is a land of romantic villages, hectare upon hectare of Provence vineyards. Everywhere you turn: historic towns, Provence markets, romantic restaurants. Here is a little Provence info - all within one hour driving from La
Peyriere.
Carpentras - do not miss the open market on Fridays and the brocante –
an open market for old but not very old stuff and knickknacks
- on Sundays.
Click
here for the site for Carpentras.
Les
Dentelles de Montmirail. From Carpentras and la Peyriere,
you can see les Dentelles de Montmirail. A fabulous place to hike,
for a picnic and just enjoy nature. Les Dentelles is on the way
to the wine area (Gigondas, Beaume de Venise, etc).
Click
here for more Provence info on les Dentelles.
Mazan - small town, quiet, excellent baguettes
in the morning - very close to La Peyriere - great for a stroll
with its old streets, town square - very traditional.

Avignon - the most famous city, once home of
the popes, still with the famous Pont d'Avignon, huge shopping
area, ancient ruins, festivals, and with the Rhone river running
through it. Click here for more Avignon Provence info:

Gordes:

Close to Gordes, l’Abbaye de Senanque.
There used to be a web page, but it's not up at the moment.
Roussillon (Elsa’s favorite) - color, history, natural beauty.
For more Provence info on Rousillon:
http://www.provenceweb.fr/e/vaucluse/roussill/roussill.htm
Uzes - the old spice market is superb and the
ice cream store on the market has the best lavender ice cream.

On the way to Usez you can visit le Pont du Gard (you need to click on the British flag to get the English version):
http://www.pontdugard.fr/
Sault - on the slope of Mt Ventoux – known
for its lavender fields and also known as the best place to buy nougat. Marvellous for an afternoon stroll.

On the way to Sault take the road along Gorges de la Nesque – breathtaking and at its best at sunset. Romantic and also some scary twists and turns.

Les
Baux de Provence - one of my favorites - a bit more than
one hour driving from La
Peyriere. Click here for Provence info on Les Baux:

Orange - with a large Roman amphitheater:
http://www.otorange.fr/
Nimes - also with a large Roman amphitheater:

Vaison la Romaine - a must for those who like
Roman history:

Le Crestet:

Le Barroux:
http://www.provenceweb.fr/e/vaucluse/barroux/barroux.htm
L'Isle sur la Sorgue - each Sunday the town has
an open market just for antiques. Many believe no trip to Provence is complete without a visit:

A few kms from l’isle sur la Sorgue is Fontaine
de Vaucluse - while there do not miss the paper factory.
Paper is made in front of you using a process dating back centuries.
to the earliest ways paper was made in France. Click here for more Provence info on Fontaine de Vaucluse:

And
who are we and how did we get started with La Peyriere,
stone villa with pool in the heart of Provence?
It's
part of an adventure neither of us ever imagined.
Philippe worked in senior management, Elsa as a professor.
And then we decided to take on La Peyriere.
We are planning to write much on this - but for now just to say
we have met great guests and intend to stay with La Peyriere
for a long time.

What does it mean, to feel at home?
Part of Elsa's Creativity Emporium.
For
those of you wondering, why so many repetitions,
is that the way you talk, the answer is no.
It has to do with search engines -
they like the main topic words
to be given over and over, in a certain ratio
(as in a recipe, add one egg for every two cups of flour).
I do like - and write - all kinds of poetry,
so this is one way I've had some fun
while also doing my best to satisfy the web spiders.
