Restaurants
Provence - so many wonderful restaurants, romantic, delicious cuisine, with the colors and flavors of Provence. There is a cafe in the smallest village.
Here, Provence info on just a few. But we also give you much more Provence info on dining out in Provence: links to two
sites with many of the restaurants in Vaucluse, the area of Provence
where La
Peyriere is situated.

Provence info - restaurants
in Mazan:
Chateau Mazan - excellent and wonderful setting but expensive.
This used to be one of the chateaux of the Marquis de Sade.
Now clients may feel tortured when presented with the bill.

:
Le
Saigon - recommended by a guest. Friendly service, good Oriental
food (Chinese, Vietnamese, Thai).
There are a few other pleasant small restaurants in Mazan - casual,
informal, relaxed. All are within a couple of minutes from each other,
near the town square, as the town is small, which means easy parking.
Provence info - restaurants
in Carpentras:
Chez Serge - friendly and great atmosphere - excellent
pizza - reserving is a must. Veru popular. Attractive. There can be
long waits.

Restaurant
la Fraiserie - fine Provencale cuisine. Excellent, but can
be average. Easy parking in front of the restaurant.
125 blvd Alfred Rogier - 84200
Carpentras - tel: 04 90 67 06 39.
La
Lavande - Middle East cuisine - couscous and more. Very friendly
serivce.

Restaurant
du Marche Gare. We haven't tried this place, but a guest recommends
it. Very inexpensive. Complete menu for 12 Euros (wine included). One
room, space for 240 people, modern decor. Open 5:00 am to 9:00 pm -
lunch 12:00 to 14:30. Closed Sunday.

- Elsa’s favorites:
Le Bercail - in Avignon - good food,
friendly service, not expensive. Plus a fabulous view onto the
Rhone and across the river to Avignon - the old ruins, the
famous pont d'Avignon. On l'Ile de la Barthelasse (the island of the
Barthelasse). Very easy to get to: as you drive into Avignon, you see
the restaurant across the river; you pass the restaurant, and soon come
to a bridge that gets you across the river, and then you drive back
to Le Bercail. Even Philippe's mother - very particular about food - really likes it. In addition to lots of other things, including excellent desserts, it's known as having the best pizza in Provence.

L'Autre
Coté du Lavoir. In St-Didier. Lovely
ambiance. Good food. 20 minutes from La
Peyriere. An old stable converted into a restaurant with
stone walls, large beamed ceiling, and in summer a courtyard. Two recent guests at La Peyriere said it was the best food they'd had in not only Provence, but France. It's run by a very nice couple that really cares about flavor and the presentation of food.

Provence restaurants - recommended by guests:
L'Auberge du Beaucet - in Le Beaucet,
just 3 km past St-Didier. Reasonable prices and excellent food.
Le Relais du Soleil. Strongly recommeneded (they went
back a second time). Complete meal for 12 Euros (wine and coffee included).
Friendly service, good food, traditional decor. Terrace-garden. Languages:
French, English, Spanish. Open 5:30 am to 1:00 am. Closed Saturday and
Sunday.
Courthezon - on Route Nationale 7 - direction: Orange
/ Avignon.

And
who are we and how did we get started with La Peyriere,
stone villa with pool in the heart of Provence?
It's
part of an adventure neither of us ever imagined.
Philippe worked in senior management, Elsa as a professor.
And then we decided to take on La Peyriere.
We are planning to write much on this - but for now just to say
we have met great guests and intend to stay with La Peyriere
for a long time.
